Photographing same-sex weddings in Thailand
I’m a wedding photographer based in Thailand, and photographing same-sex weddings here is some of the work I enjoy most. The setting is easy to love, and the couples are usually relaxed, excited and fully themselves. That makes for good photographs.
My approach doesn’t change with who is standing in front of me. I work candidly, I don’t stage or rehearse moments, and I stay calm so you can enjoy the day. I’ve photographed 700+ weddings since 2011, and every couple gets the same attention to detail: the vows, the nerves, the quiet look across the room.

Why Thailand is a popular destination for gay weddings
Thailand has a long-standing reputation as a welcoming place for LGBTQ+ travellers, and many couples tell me that’s why they choose it. Add the beaches, resorts and food, and it makes sense that same-sex weddings in Thailand keep growing in popularity, especially in Phuket, Koh Samui and Bangkok.
Thailand’s marriage equality law came into effect in January 2025, so same-sex couples can now register a marriage here. Requirements for foreign couples, and the documents you need, can vary by nationality and can change, so please check the current rules with your embassy, the local district office or an experienced wedding planner. I’m a photographer, not a legal adviser, so I leave that part to the experts. Many couples also hold a symbolic ceremony or celebration with friends and family, and I photograph those just the same.
Phuket
Same-sex weddings in Phuket
Phuket is Thailand’s largest island, and it’s where I live and work. It offers quiet beaches, private villas and resorts, and plenty of room for a small ceremony or a larger party. See my Phuket wedding photography page for more on working here.
You can choose a modern celebration with contemporary touches or include Thai elements, such as a ceremony with Buddhist influences (read about Thailand Buddhist weddings). I enjoy planning photographs around your style, whether that’s a bohemian beach wedding or a polished city celebration.
Light and timing in Phuket
Phuket’s heat peaks in the early afternoon, so I usually suggest ceremonies in the late afternoon, with portraits around golden hour. Sunset falls at roughly six, give or take half an hour. If you’d like a beach ceremony, a later start keeps you and your guests more comfortable.
Koh Samui
Same-sex weddings on Koh Samui
Koh Samui suits couples who want privacy. I’ve been photographing there since 2011 and have done 100+ weddings on the island, so I know its beaches, villas and resorts well. Think of a vow exchange on a secluded beach at sunset, or a private villa surrounded by greenery.

My approach
How I photograph LGBTQ+ couples and ceremonies
You don’t need to know how to pose, and you won’t be asked to act out clichés. Here is what you can expect.
Candid and unstaged
I follow the day as it unfolds. Laughing, crying, holding hands, a toast from a friend. There’s room for a few portraits of the two of you, with light classic and moody styles, and the rest is documentary.
A comfortable, inclusive environment
You should feel comfortable being yourselves, including with your families and guests. If you have specific wishes about how you’d like to be photographed, or about who is who in the group shots, tell me ahead of time. I’d rather know than guess.

The process
How booking your same-sex wedding photographer works
Start with an email or a video call, and tell me about your plans, location and guest count. I reply to every email or text within 24 hours. A small deposit (Wise, Skrill, bank transfer; PayPal is also possible) reserves your date, then we sign a contract and have another video call to walk through the wedding day together.
I limit myself to 25 weddings a year, so it’s worth getting in touch early. Bookings made about five months ahead can get promotional rates, and low season often has discounted rates. Full-day wedding packages start from USD 1,700, and you can read more on the investment and packages page. I arrive the day before the wedding to get settled.
Photos usually arrive within 3 to 6 weeks, longer in peak season (November to May), and my contract commits to 3 to 4 months. For planning help, see my destination wedding guide, and for more on timelines, the wedding photography schedule.

How far ahead should we book?
As early as you can. I take no more than 25 weddings a year, and bookings made about five months ahead can qualify for promotional rates. Peak season runs from November to May, so those dates go first. Low-season dates may come with discounted rates.
Can you film our wedding as well as photograph it?
Yes. I offer photo and video packages as well as stand-alone video, and I direct cinematic wedding films. Tell me what you’d like and I’ll put together options. Replies take no more than 24 hours.
