Weddings on Koh Tao
Koh Tao wedding photographer for small island weddings
Koh Tao is a small island in the Gulf of Thailand with clear water, quiet beaches and green hillsides. I’m Daniel Baci, and I’ve photographed weddings in Thailand since 2011, more than 700 so far, including over 100 on nearby Koh Samui. That Gulf experience is what I bring to your Koh Tao wedding.
If you’re planning a destination wedding here, your guest list is probably small, and that suits how I work. I shoot candid, documentary-style photographs with no rehearsed poses, and a small group is the easiest place for that to happen.
Why get married on Koh Tao
Koh Tao is calm. There’s no long circuit of big venues, so most weddings are built around a beach, a resort or a private garden, and the guest lists tend to stay small. I like that. Nobody’s rushing between locations, and there’s time to be present with each other.
Beach sunset ceremonies
Sunset ceremonies are the classic Koh Tao choice, and the west side of the island is the place for them. Sunset is around 6pm for most of the year, so I usually suggest starting the ceremony roughly an hour and a half before. You get warm, low light for the vows and a few minutes of colour for portraits afterwards.
Garden and hillside settings
If a hot beach at 4pm doesn’t appeal, the island’s lush greenery gives you another option. Shaded gardens throw soft light even around midday, which is useful for family groups. On our video call I’ll look at photos of the spot and tell you which time of day suits it.
Clear water and boat days
Koh Tao is known for diving and snorkelling, so the water is part of the setting. If you met diving or want a boat trip in your day, tell me early. I’ll build it into the schedule and keep the pictures about the two of you rather than the scenery.
Planning a Koh Tao wedding: season, travel and timing
Koh Tao sits on the Gulf coast, which is driest roughly from January to September and wettest from October to December. That’s roughly the reverse of Phuket and Krabi on the Andaman side. My Thailand destination wedding guide sets the two coasts side by side if you’re still choosing.
There is no airport on the island, so guests usually fly to Koh Samui or the mainland and finish the trip by ferry. Boats depend on sea conditions, and in the wetter months a delay is possible. This is why I always arrive the day before your wedding, never on the morning. If you’d like a larger island with more venues, Koh Samui wedding photography is the nearest option, and I know it well.
Photographing your Koh Tao wedding as a story
Every couple has a different story, and I don’t want to force yours into a template. I look for candid moments, the quiet exchanges between you and your people, and the details that belong to your day: a ring on a finger, handwritten vows, sand on a dress hem.
I’m a calm photographer, not a bossy one. My aim is that you feel comfortable in front of the camera, and that usually means giving you room first and adding a little light classic or moody portraiture later. You can see the balance in my selected work.
Koh Tao wedding photography and videography
I also direct cinematic wedding films, and my team offers wedding videography across Thailand. You can book photo and video together or video on its own. See my Thailand wedding videography page, or the Koh Samui wedding videographer page for island examples. I also photograph elopements, which suit Koh Tao well.
Booking your Koh Tao wedding photographer
I was named Thailand Wedding Photographer of the Year by LUXlife Magazine in 2019, 2024 and 2025. What matters on a small island is the process, so here it is:
- We start with emails or a video call, and I reply to every message within 24 hours.
- A small deposit (Wise, Skrill or bank transfer) holds your date, and we sign a contract.
- A second video call goes through your wedding day.
- I arrive the day before. I limit myself to 25 weddings a year.
- Photos arrive in 3 to 6 weeks in most cases, and the contract commits to 3 to 4 months.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do you photograph weddings on Koh Tao?
Yes. I’m based in Phuket and travel to Koh Tao, Koh Samui, Krabi, Bangkok, Chiang Mai and other parts of Thailand. I arrive the day before so we can meet, walk the location and be ready for the ceremony without rushing.
When is the best time of year for a Koh Tao wedding?
The Gulf coast is driest roughly from January to September, and the wettest months are October to December. Choose a date inside the dry window if you can. Sunset is around 6pm for most of the year, so a late-afternoon ceremony works in any dry month.
What time should we hold a beach ceremony?
I usually suggest starting about an hour and a half before sunset. That gives soft light for the ceremony, then colour for portraits as the sun drops. If your guests are sensitive to heat, shaded gardens also work at midday. We’ll fix the timing together on our video call.
Can you photograph a small elopement on Koh Tao?
Yes. Elopements are a good fit for the island. I’ll plan a short, relaxed schedule around the light, keep the day private, and tell you where to stand only when it helps. Two people and a photographer is often the most comfortable way to be photographed.
How do you get to Koh Tao with your equipment?
I travel from Phuket with my own gear, usually by flight to Koh Samui or the mainland and then by boat. I plan for ferry delays by arriving the day before your wedding. If sea conditions change, I’ll talk to you and your planner about it.
How much does a Koh Tao wedding photographer cost?
My wedding photography generally ranges from about USD 1,000 to 5,000, and full-day packages start from USD 1,700. Travel to Koh Tao and the hours you need affect the quote, so send me your date and plan. I offer promotional rates for bookings made about five months ahead and discounted rates in low season.
Do you also offer wedding videography on Koh Tao?
Yes. I direct cinematic wedding films and can combine them with photography in one package, or film on their own. See my Thailand wedding videography page for details and examples.
